I have been trying to obtain the medical records of my uncle a patient at
Elgin State Hospital from 1926 until his death in 1959. The only reply received
after half a dozen requests for information was a stonewall written by a
bureaucrat hiding behind patient privacy legislation. As if a patient dead 45
years requires this kind of protection while his relatives could be exposed to
familial diseases unknown to them. Has anyone been successful in piercing the
unresponsive guardians of these records? There must be a way.
