The City directories will help you figure out what schools are where.

The local libraries generally have city directories for the larger towns,
such as Elgin, Aurora, and the Tri-Cities (St. Chares, Geneva, Batavia). In
the early days, there were also occasional County Directories listing people in
the townships but not the ones on the above cities. They are 4 separate
series, so you will need to contact someone with access to that particular
library for that directory.

For the Tri-Cities, the directories started about 1911 and go forward from
there. I'm not sure of the Aurora and Elgin date availability.
