Gillaspie, Wm. H.
J.P., Abingdon, is the son of Simon and Juliette (Halloway) Gillespie, natives of West Virginia; was born in Montgomery
County, KY, Sept. 17, 1823; spent his early life on a farm and
attending school at the old log school house. He has been
Mayor of Abingdon 4 years, City and Town Clerk several
years each, and Justice of the Peace 4 terms. He came to
Abingdon in 1854; joined the Christian Church in 1841; is
clerk of Jefferson Street Church. He married Mary Ann
Bradshaw March 3, 1844; she died in 1852, married Martha
Bradley, July 3, 1853; she died in 1870; and he again married
Dec 7, 1871. Republican.
