I noted your messages about your family around St. Augustine which is dear to my heart also. My gr-grandfather ran the general store there from 1909-1935. I checked the 1850 census and find a Martin household in Fulton Co with a daughter Martha.

Deerfield township (that is a little south of St. Augustine)
The top of page says Town of Deerfield. If it was a town it is not on map now, possibly just meant "township".

Thomas Martin 27 or 29, farmer b. KY
Mary 24, b. Penn
Martha 4, b. IL
John S. 2, b. IL
Elizabeth 3 months, b. IL

The Illinois marriage index shows a later marriage 1-16-1868 in Fulton Co for a Thomas to Margaret W. Landis. So his wife may have died or it could be another Thomas, there were 2 Thomas Martins in Fulton Co in 1850.

I see a marriage for a Martha Martin to Lewis Palmer 7-8-1858. If that is the same Martha she would have been quite young at time of marriage. Therefore even though the parents would not normally be listed on license there may be a signature somewhere allowing the minor to marry. And of course sometime ages were incorrect on the census.
