I gave or rather posted the only information I had on Powell's in the Knox County, IL, area. I thought they might be of some relation to you. Beings your grandfather was born in Adams County, IL, there is also a Robert Powell of Adams County that married someone else. do you know when he came to knox co., IL?
That would help when trying to look for information on them. Also you might want to try and post on the rootsweb Adams County, IL list and list the names. Did he have any sisters or brothers? I have three 1880's history books that I went through for knox County, IL and only found what I posted earlier for. If I find anymore will post again. Sorry couldn't be of more help. But alot of times when they were born they stayed and lived in that county. They thought more of roots back then than alot of people do today.
