Message Board Post:

My gg-grandma was Mary Bridget Morrisey-Freeman 1832-1886. Born in Limerick, Ireland, she died in Galesburg. Immigrated abt 1850 living in NY area for a few years. First appearance in Illinois was 1858 marriage in Galesburg. I know of one brother in Galesburg for certain. He could be the James Edward you are looking for. He appears as Edward on all the census takings I have found. There was also a John Morrisey in Galesburg, married 1868 to Catherine Rourke. I do not know if John was related to my Bridget but there were very few Morriseys in Galesburg at the time.

I am sure Edward was her brother. I find him on 1870 & 1880 census. He may have been here sooner but I haven't found him in 1860 yet. He is referred to as Officer Morrisey in Bridget's obit, confirmed as city marshall on 1880 census.

Census readings indicate he was born abt 1830-31 in Ireland, wife named Alice. Children, all born Illinois and approximate birth years:
John 1866
Michael 1868
Mary 1869
Maggie 1870
Eddie 1873
Jimmy 1874
Bessie 1876
Willie 1880

Does any of this fit with your James Edward? I have not had a chance to study him further to see if he remained in Galesburg until his death. Do you have any more details such as approximate dates? I don't come across very many Morrissey researchers for Knox Co so would be interested in who your subjects might be. There are Morrisey/Morrissey's buried in both St Joseph's and St Mary's.
