I found a "Ranson J. Brooks" in the 1900 Knox County, Knox Township,
Knoxville City, IL census and again in the 1910 census. He is 62 in
1900, married to "Lorvina M.", owns his own home and has a son, "Daniel
W." age 22, living at home. I can not read Ranson's occupation well as
someone has written over it. It appears to say, "teaming". Daniel's
occupation was a teamster.
( T623 Roll 314 Page 168 Line 4 Dwelling #281 Family #298 -- 1900 Census)
In the 1910 IL Knox Co, Knoxville census it shows Ranson, age 70, again
with his wife Lorvina age 68, but no children are living with them. It
shows his occupation as a teamster and that the general nature of the
business is "hauling ___" (illegible).
( T624 Roll 298 Page 298 Line 89 Dwelling 108 Family 110 )
In the 1900 and the 1910 Fulton County (right next to Knox), Lewistown
Township, there is a Robert Brooks, age 40. His occupation is a
farmer. He has a wife and several children.
In the 1900 Knox Co., Knoxville census there is also a R. Brooks age 23,
boarder, laborer at the brickyard. He doesn't appear here in 1910.
Maybe someone has more info on Ranson J. Brooks other than what it shows
in the census regarding his occupation.
Good luck!
Catherine Burke
Researching Adkisson and spelling variants, Harper, Powell, Babbitt,
Lomax, Edmonds, and more all from this area of IL.
Especially looking for information on James M. Jesse Adkisson b. 1831
and his 1st wife Elizabeth Harper b.1831 d.1868
buried at Cherry Grove Cemetery in Abingdon. I need her parents names,
and also to find her in any census with her family or with James
Adkisson. Thanks!
