Linda,
My name is Patti, the other responder was Pat... I bet we confused you right off!. Pat gave you the link to the assessors website. Which is a real nifty site, maybe it is just down for maintenance right now.

I was hoping to search the census records for you. But if your person of interest did not live in Knox Co, that might not help. BUT, if they died in Galesburg, perhaps there is a mention in the local obituaries. Quite possible they had relations he may have been visiting. How about you give us a name and something may be found.

I was born in Galesburg in 1960 and have lived nearby all my live. I do not profess to be an expert on the city but to my knowledge, in that era, there would not have been a hospital on Academy St. and probably never was. I do believe that area was then (and still is) residential. It's just two blocks west and 3-4 blocks south of where my mom grew up.

To my knowledge we would have had Cottage Hospital at the corner of Seminary & Losey, St. Mary's on Cherry St, just south of Main and the Mayo Hospital, which was later used as a state mental insitution-my mom worked there. It is no longer a hospital but the buildings are still there and part of a retirement community. It is located on North Seminary on the north edge of town towards the newer hospital. There was also a sanitarium on the east side of town on Division St. off of HWY 150. Cottage & St Mary's still exist but St. Mary's is now an OSF Hospital.
