Hi,
...from 1877 Past and Present of La Salle county page 508
"Pitts (H. A.) Sons Manufacturing Co., Marseilles; manufacturers of
the original Chicago Pitt's Threshing Machines; formerly of Chicago;
came to Marseilles in the fall of 1871; H. A. Pitts was the original
inventor of machines manufactured by his sons."
"Pitts M. H. manufacturer; Marseilles; 15."
The "15" means that person was worth $15,000.
Didn't Pitts come to Marseilles because of the Chicago fire??
I wonder, would the Marseilles Library have more information about the
Pitts family? They could probably photocopy the page for you.
