Was someone look for a German? priest a while back? Is This Him?
Found this in La Salle County Lore, page 75 Troy Grove Township
" The present church was designed by Father Caspar Neiderberger who
patterned it after his memories of a Swiss church. Parishioners hauled
limestone rock from near Troy Grove and the building was finished in
1872. Father Neiderberger remember that even the little churches among
his Alps had some inspiring work of art near the altar and considered
how to arrange this.
When he was a schoolboy and had dreamed of being a priest, his
schoolmate, Paul Deschwanden, dreamed of being an artist. Deschwanden
promised that some day he would paint a work of art for his fiend.
When the priest wrote the artist, a painting of Christ and the
apostle Peter was soon shipped to the States and now hangs in this
church.
