Many libraries offer free access to Heritage Quest (census and history
books).
Those members who have Ottawa Illinois Reddicks Library Cards can access
this information from their homes.
First go to
http://www.reddicklibrary.org/
Then choose databases under Reference. This brings up a new screen where
you can select Heritage Quest Online and enter your library card number.
You can search by name and location, etc in books (LaSalle County books are
on there). Also the census records excluding 1850, 1880 (which is free on
the familysearch.org site anyway) and 1930 (which they are working on).
They do not offer the soundex option for census searches but if you can
narrow down the area you are searching you can use the advanced search with
first name, age, place of birth, etc. to find who you are looking for.
Be sure to check your local library and see if this fantastic service is
available in your area!
