Roger--

After remembering that the 1900 census said George and Margret had been
married 34 years, I figured I must be wrong on the 1880 census, and went
back to the Free BMD site and found a marriage records for George Mason in
June 1866. This marriage occurred in the district of Monmouth, and the
wife's name may have been Mary Trotter. Monmouth covers a lot of place
names, and some of them sound Welsh:

Crick, Cwmcarvan, Dingestow, Dixton Newton, Llandenny, Llandogo,
Llangatock-Vibou-Avel, Llangoven, Llanishen, Llantillio Crossenny,
Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Mitchel Troy, Monmouth, Park Grace-Dieu,
Penalt, Penrose, Pen-y-Clawdd, Ragland, Rockfield, St. Manghans, Skenfreth,
Tregare, Trelleck, Welsh Bicknor (1837-44), Wonastow.

Since Margret was from Wales (1900 census), this entry appears to fit fairly
well.

Best wishes,

Tim
