First, a big thank you to everyone who responded to my inquiry about local
gravesites. It was a real help, not only to have the information, but to
realize that there are so many neat people out there willing to help.
Do any of you have "lost souls" for whom you just can't find a lead? If so,
how do you handle it? My grgrandmother was Mary (Maria) ALTEVOGT BUESCHER of
Staunton. She was born in 1862 in IL, but that isn't enough information to
locate any records. Her marriage to Henry (Johann Heinrich) BUESCHER doesn't
seem to exist. She and Henry both died in 1945 in Staunton, but that isn't
enough information to proceed either. The State Historical Library doesn't
have the Star-Times past 1936 or I'd go through each issue looking for
obituaries. There are ALTEVOGT's in Macoupin Co. all over the internet and in
census data, but I can't prove a solid connection. I know she existed because
I have her photograph and many stories which I was too stupid to pay
attention to when they were told to me as a child. Do I have any hope of
finding her or is she lost to me forever? I'd really appreciate any
suggestions or advice on what to do next. Thanks everyone!
BTW, do any of you ever feel "responsible" for finding someone--or am I the
only one developing an obsession about this genealogy stuff?
