I've been trying to research a great...aunt. She was born Marie
Florentine Charlotte Westerhold on 27 Oct 1839 in Westphalia. She
immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1857, through New Orleans
to St. Louis, eventually to Madison Co., IL. She died 11 Jan 1919 in
Los Angeles, CA, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. It's the part
between immigration and death that's giving me trouble.

On 3 Dec 1860 a marriage license was issued to "Maria C. Westerhold"
and "Louis Schwettmann" in Madison Co., IL. According to the county
clerk, it was never returned (or maybe it got misfiled?) I know of two
children, Charles H. (b. 23 Aug 1862) and Lena (b. 31 Dec 1868). Then
Louis vanishes from any records I've been able to find - presumed dead.

On 20 Dec 1871 "Charlotte Schwettmann" married "Henry F. W.
Detterding", again in Madison Co., IL.

On the LDS index to the 1880 census, I finally found "Charlotte
Deterding" with children Charles and Lena "Surdtman". No Henry - dead
already? No Detterding children, apparently. Charles appears again in
the index as "Sweatman", living with his uncle Charles Westerhold's
family.

On 12 May 1887 "Charles Schwettmann" married "Pleazza D. Schidler" in
Madison Co., IL. (Her name was more usually spelled Scheidler.)

On 12 Sep 1894 "Lena Schwettman" married Frank Irving, in Madison Co,
IL. Their son, Louis John Irving was born in 1895 in Los Angeles.

A few years later, Charles and Pleazza Schwettmann and "Charlotte
Schwettmann" also move to Los Angeles, where everyone eventually dies
without issue.

Do any of these sound familar to anyone else out there?
