I am the Reference Librarian at Eden Seminary and also work in the archives there. I would like to offer some clarification to the Milligans' information about the Archives at Eden Theolgical Seminary.
First of all, researchers are always welcome at the Archives, but it is important to make an appointment by contacting Dr. Zuck at 314-252-3140 or , or myself at the contact information at the end of this message. Please do NOT call Dr. Zuck at home.
The web site address for the Archives is: http://www.eden.edu/Archives/edenarch.html. We are in the process of updating the web site to make it more useful to researchers.
It is important to note that the Archives does NOT hold records for all the predecessor denominations to the United Church of Christ, but only for one known as the Evangelical Synod of North America. This denomination merged with the Reformed Church in the United States in 1934 to form the Evangelical and Reformed Church, which then merged with the Association of Congregational Christian Churches in 1957 to form the present-day United Church of Christ.
The Archives holds records of the Evangelical Synod of North America, its pastors, churches and institutions from about 1850--when it was founded--up to 1934 at the time of the merger with the Reformed Church. It has continues to collect material about churches and institutions that originated in the Evangelical Synod up to the present.
The Archives maintains files for about 98% of the pastors that ever served the denomination, although this consists mostly of very basic biographical information and a parish service record. The Archives also has history files for most Evangelical Synod congregations. These usually contain written histories and other items of historical interest. The Archives has in addition either original or microfilm records for many---but not all--St. Louis congregations belonging to the denomination, and for a very limited number of congregations from other areas. As far as church records go, most of what we have pertaining to St. Louis is also available on microfilm at the St. Louis County Library.
Researchers should be aware where other United Church of Christ records are held:

Eden Theological Seminary has the archives for the United Church of Christ and its predecessor denominations. They have a comprehensive list of the ministers who served in these churches. Whatever else they have is contingent on how much the local churches decided to send. The seminary library has many books on the denomination's history.
To view the archives which are housed at the seminary library on Lockwood Avenue in Webster Groves, it is best to call ahead to the archivist and arrange a time to meet him there. He lives close to the seminary and makes himself available to researchers. I've contacted him a couple of times and found him to be quite willing to help with whatever materials they have. Here's his contact info:
