I don't know about any records but I think I know where this Mr Chance's Office
was in Salem, IL. If I am not mistaken it was in the basement of what is now
called Sea Breeze. There is an Office door (still hanging) that has the name of
the Officer and the year. I just do not remember the name but Chance rings a
bell.
I do know that in the days of old the prisoners were lead through a tunnel to the
Court House. This tunnel started at this Office that I am talking about. Of
course, the tunnel is walled up now, but I have seen the entrance of it. Anyway,
I hope that helps you.
