Our genealogy library has a large volume on the History of the Church of
Christ. Originally the Church of Christ came out of the Campbellite
movement. It was the Disciples of Christ as we know it today. After a few
years, there was a split to form the non-instrumental Church of Christ.
Then another split, years later, formed the independent Church of
Christ/Christian churches. These churches are totally independent from a
governing council. They are solely responsible for hiring the minister and
ruling over the church's activities.
I do not know anything about that specific church in Alma, however.
Hope this helps.
