There was an article " A Grisley Mystery in Salem" about a murder that
occured in Salem and in that article was the following
Mr. Wm. H. MASON made an excellent photograph of the skull before the
lower jaw was found.

December 22, 1902 Mrs. W. A. (Martha Hubbard) MASON, wfe of Centralia's
school principal inthe '60's died in Los Angeles. She claimed to be a
grand-niece of Jessie Merwin, the person on whom the character of
Ichabod Crain was based
