I thought I had a book that gave IL townships...if so, I can't find it.
(I did find a lot of township maps but so far nothing that shows all
townships in Marion Co at once...) But while looking, I rediscovered
this excellent article about land records. I highly recommend it.

I don't know of the 1840 census of Marion co being on line. I did not
find the names you are asking for in the 1850 census.
