Marion,
I have been unable to use my computer for a couple of months so have not been able to respond to your messages regarding your searches for our missing Confederate veterans. I sincerely apologize for not at least writing instead. I finally got my computer fixed and think I am back in operation once more. Thank you for having been doing the searching for me. It is a daunting task and not always easy. I have been trying to set up a database to collect information on all the Confederates buried in Illinois. The jobn has become much larger than I ever imagined when I began. So far, I have found more than 12,000 statewide. Most are in the five national cemeteries at Alton, Camp Butler, Rock Island, Camp Douglas (Oakwood in Chicago) and Mound City. Over four hundred have been found in the counties across the state. I have been trying to write to every county in the state to see if I can ask the genealogical societies and historical societies if they have records for the p!
eople. So far, I am not having a very good response from most, though the ones that have responded have provided some good materials.
I am wondering if I can prevail upon you to perhaps look for the obituaries or death notices for the men shown below. I don't know if you have access to the files or if you have the time to do it. I will be glad to pay for your time and assistance. I am hoping to get some additional information on each of them to help positively identify them to see if we can get their military records and be able to get a VA marker for them. Maybe we can plan on trying to pull together a memorial ceremony for all of them collectively from Marion County. We did that in Lawrence County this year. If we could find any living descendants for these men it would be great.
Again, I apologize for not being able to get back with you much sooner. Please let me know what you think.
Confederately,
Gale Red

I chased down Ben Norfleet. He was moved to Centralia Hillcrest cemetery, section 1 lot 205. He was in Federal Prison Camp at or near Chicago.
I found no marker, there is a large oak tree at that location.
