4. HEZAKIAH4 SWIGART (JEREMIAH3, GEORGE2, ADAM1) was born April 12, 1842 in
Newark,Licking Co. Ohio, and died June 03, 1922 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He
married SARAH ELIZABETH BLACK April 04, 1867 in Macomb, Illinois.

Notes for HEZAKIAH SWIGART:
They got married in Macomb, ILL. And between 4 to 6 yrs later they moved to
Iowa ( Shenandoah, Iowa area) They lived there for about 3 years. Then moved
to Westboro, Mo. area and stayed there. After that, that is where the family
stayed until 1996. In the meanwhile I Sandra (Bricker) Sheldon lived in Mo.,
then moved to Iowa after my father died. And then moved to Oklahoma. (See

HEZEKIAH SWIGART & SARAH ELIZABETH SWIGART

Hezekiah Swigart, son of Jeremiah and Sarah ( Godfrey) Swigart, was born in
Newark, Licking County, Ohio on
December 4, 1842. When he was quite young the family moved to Macomb,
McDonough County, Illinois.

He was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Black, in Macomb, by the Rev.
James T. Bliss on April 4, 1867.
Sarah was born in Adams County, Ohio on April 15, 1847. She was the daughter
of Arthur Gill and Syrena
(Pennington) Black. The Blacks live in Ohio, Indiana and Kansas. Arthur
Gill Black was a Dunkard Minister as
well as a farmer.

Hezekiah and Sarah had eleven children. They moved from Macomb to Shenandoah,
Iowa about 1887, living
there for three years. They then moved to a farm near Westboro, Atchison
County, Missouri. We believe the
trips were made with horse and wagons. They were farmers and lived on the
farm until their death. Sarah
passed away April 23, 1916. Although Hezekiah joined the Christian church in
Illinois he was deprived of
attending church because he was hard of hearing. Family members tells us that
Hezekiah was struck by lighting
and evenutally had to be confined to a hospital where he died June 3, 1922 in
St. Joseph, Missouri.

Sarah and Hezekiah and their small daughter, Lydia, are buried in Grange Hall
Cemetery.

Sarah’s mother and father had five children in all. Sarah Elizabeth Black was
the oldest and she married
Hezekiah. Mary was second and she married Mr. Miller of Wellington, Kansas.
Mattie was the third child born
and she married Mr. Craig in So. Haven, Kansas. James Black was the fourth
child and he lived in S. Haven,
Kansas. And Abraham Black was the fifth child and he lived in Sunnyside,
Wash.

This is what the obituary of Sarah Elizabeth ( Black) Swigart- Her name
reverted back to Mrs. Sarah Black. She
died at their home sixteen miles south of Shenandoah April 15, 1916 and born
April 15, 1847 in Adams county,
Ohio. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Black. When she was
a year old her parents moved to
Indiana and there the home was saddened by all the children but herself having
been taken away by diphtheria.
Then her parents moved to Illinois where she was married to Hezekiah Swigart,
where they lived until the fall of
1877. When they moved southeast of Shenandoah to the place she died. To them
were born eleven children,
three dying in infancy, their names being: Norman., Sharon, Okla. .
Florence Viola, or Mrs. Mons Nelson of
St. Joseph: Ross Emerson, deceased, Lulu May, Mrs. homer Sonner, Sunny
Side, Wash., Issac Newton, at
home. Besides the living children she leaves two sisters and two brothers.
Their names being Mrs. Mary Miller,
Wellington, Ken, Mattie Craig, South Haven, Kansas, James Black, South Haven,
Ken. Abraham Black,
Sunnyside, Wash, also twenty-four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Her sisters and Norman assisted
in taking care of her in her last sickness. The deceased told her children
when she was taken sick it was her final
sickness, and that she was ready to go. She made arrangements for her burial
and requested to be buried at
Grange Hall by the side of her daughter. Everything was done for her
suffering that could be done. neighbors
and friends were very kind- may God bless them.

This is what the obituary of Hezekiah Swigart. Hezekiah Swigart of Westboro
died in a hospital in St. Joseph on
Sat. June 3rd, at the age of 79 years and 6 months. Mr. Swigart was born in
Newark county, Ohio, on Dec. 4,
1842. leaving Ohio with his father’s family at an early age, he settled near
Macomb, Ill. where he was married to
Sarah Black on April 4, 1867. Eleven children were born to this union, seven
of whom survive,. They are
Norman C. of Sharon, Okla,. Florence of St. Joseph, Lulu , Arthur and James
of Sunnyside, Wash and Issac and
Flora of Westboro. Two brothers - Nehemiah of Macomb, Ill. and Uriah of
Beatrice, Ne. together with 20
grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren also survived. Mr. Swigart moved
from Illinois to Shenandoah, Ia.,
where he lived for three years, then moved to the from near Westboro where he
has since made his home. When
a young man he joined the Christian Church in Ill. and though hard of hearing
and deprived of the privilege of
attending worship he kept his membership with the church. The funeral
services were conducted at Grange Hall
Tuesday, the Rev. J. Jay Cokely officiating, Interment was made at Grange
Hall.

JEFFERSON FUHR March 10, 1867.
