Mr. Carpenter's May 6 response to Gerald prompts me to ask for help in
finding my relatives from Mercer, Co, ILL.
I am seeking obituary, birth, death, marriage, and burial information for
the following people.
The only clue I have to their existence is a newspaper clipping:

Citation is Awarded Keithsburg Marine
Mr. and Mrs. James R. Thompson of Keithsburg have been notified that
their son, Marine First Lieut. Robert J. Thompson, has been commended by
Admiral Willam F. Halsey, for transporting by plane more than 13 tons of
vital military cargo in the face of Japanese fires.
Lt. Thompson was pilot of a transport plane attached to the South
Pacific Air Transport command, operating in the Coilomon Islands area.
According to Admiral Halsey he showed not only complete disregard for
his personal safety, but a high degree of courage. He now hold the rank
of captain, and is still flying the South Pacific area.
Capt. Thompson has been serving in the South Pacific area for the past
year. He was first pilot on a C-47 and was awarded the D.F.C. on Nov 10,
1943 for valor in action.
He is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Odell of Aledo.
