Try looking into the BARKER/SMITH/HIGGINS/POTTER/DOTY/THOMPSON lines of MONROE & ST.CLAIR IL ca 1818-1820.
These folks were origianlly from ME, with some of them leaving for cincinnati at an earlier time. In 1818 the BARKERS left ME with the THOMPSONS and the group ran into their old neighbors at the docks in cincinnati. They stayed there for awhile and Barkers in KY, as a couple of their men went to IL to secure land. there may have been HINCKLY, TEMPLE and others with them.
