Juli and Ardilla,
Perhaps I can clear up one of those Baker names. The Elias Baker family
married into my Garrison family. Apparently they were all together in South
Carolina, then Georgia, then the Bakers came to Bond/Montgomery County ahead
of the Garrisons who were my direct ancestors. According to the History of
Bond and Montgomery County, "Elias Baker took a claim in Sec. 25 in the fall
of 1819. His son James came with him. In about one year the old gentleman
became dissatisfied with the new country, and went back to the hills of his
native Georgia, where he died 2 years later." There was also a James Baker
in this family but I have no information as to whether he was or was not
ever in Christian County. There was a Charles in Elias' family and he is
probably the C. M. Baker in the Garrison neighborhood in 1840.
The 1820 Bond County census shows households for Elias, James, & Rachel
Baker, together. The Public Land Sales record shows that Elias Baker's land
was actually in the area that was the far northern end of Bond county that
was considered to be part of Grisham Twp., Montgomery County by those
keeping the Land Sales records. Hope I haven't confused you.
Anyway, Ardilla, I don't believe the Elias Baker on Juli's list is
connected to your Jacob.
The land records for both of your Jacobs are in Zanesville Township
beginning 10/2/1819.
Roxane is near Jacob Baker Jr. in the 1840 census, is she his mother??? She
then married Loring S. William (Williams Cemetery!) 10/23/1844.
Good luck,
Karen
