Lawrence Rhea, and his sister Mary Elizabeth Rhea were. John Lawrence
married, 1st. Mary Ann Turner, daughter of Evan and Susannah Rebecca Hart
Turner. Mary Elizabeth Rhea m. David Francis Turner all of Morgan Co.
Illinois.
I have some historical info on this cemetery that was sent to me by Myra
Martin, Genealogist and Editor of the Waverly Genealogical and Historical
Society in Waverly, Ill.
This is from three different dates in March, 1976 of the Waverly Journal
John W. Mayes may have been the last person buried at Turner Cemetery. He
was born Oct. 6, 1859 near Waverly and died in Virden Feg. 5, 1946. He
married Elizabeth Almira Vancil, who preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 1930
and is buried at Turner Cemetery.
Most of the people buried in this cemetery are descendants of John and Ruth
Turner; Thomas R.G. and Susanna (Barnhart) Turner; David F. and Mary E.
(Rhea) Turner and Mrs. Catherine (Stice) Turner.
John Turner was born Dec. 18, 1791 and died Jan. 6, 1866. he was married
April 17, 1811, to Ruth Downing. (1795-1864). John Turner was a Ranger served
in the War of 1812 and the Black Hawk War.Five of his children are buried in
the cemetery with their wives or husbands.
One stone in the cemetery reads: Catharine, Wife of Israel Turner, Sr. Born
1797 died March 19, 1854. Israel and Catharine Turner were going west. He
died in western Nebraska and was "buried on the plains", his death was due to
cholera. Mrs. Catharine (Stice) Turner returned to Illinois with her family.
If there is anyone on our ILMorgan List, that knows of the Turner Family,
especially of Evan Turner and Susannah Rebecca Hart; David Francis Turner and
Mary Elizabeth Rhea, would they please contact me. I am very interested in
the family.
Of the marriage of John Lawrence Rhea and Mary Ann Turner, only one child
survived their trip to Kansas. Julia Louisa Rhea Shoemaker. She is buried in
Rockville Cemetery, Miami Co. Ks. close to her father. Mary Ann and her other
three children are buried somewhere in Cherokee co. Ks.
