Hello: So happy to have found this list! Trust that it will be mutually
rewarding. Always pleased to share what I have found concerning my
husband, Don BELL'S ALDERSON connections.
The earliest ALDERSON ancestors of my husbands that I can find so far are:
Charles ALDERSON born 1798 in England. He married Elizabeth PRATT 2
July 1820 in Yorkshire, England. They emigrated from Liverpool to New York
in 1850 with their 10/11? children. Family tradition says that they
visited some "relatives" in Virginia first and then settled in Chapin,
Morgan County, Illinois. Charles ALDERSON died March 1868 aged 69 years.
Elizabeth ALDERSON died 8 November 1864 aged 67 years. They are buried
in Tippit Cemetery about 1 1/4 miles north of Bethel, Illinois.
Their son, Charles D. ALDERSON was born 17 August 1831 in Bolton Percy,
East Riding, Yorkshire, England.
Charles emigrated with his parents from England to Morgan County. Charles
D. ALDERSON married 16 July, 1854, Mary E. CARTER. They removed to
Sadorus Township, Champaign County, Illinois in 1855.
Charles D. ALDERSON crossed the country to California twice seeking gold,
once before he was married and once after he was married. He was postmaster
at Sadorus for a number of years. Charles D. ALDERSON died
6 August 1914 and is buried in Sadorus Cemetery. His wife preceded him in
death by about 27 years. Their daughter Sarah A. ALDERSON was born 17 Oct.
1866 in Sadorus, Illinois. She married Samuel Fenton BELL
16 Oct 1889, Champaign County, Illinois. They had 8 children. Sarah A.
BELL died 11 march 1923. Samuel BELL died 24 February 1946. They are
buried at Roselawn Cemetery, Champaign, Illinois near the University of
Illinois. Harley Fenton BELL, was the 6th of their 8 children.
(1900-1984) He was the father of my husband, Donald Fenton BELL (1925-
).
Am looking for any further information on any of this ALDERSON
family--why they emigrated to Morgan County? Who were the parents of Mary
E. CARTER. Census says she was born in Tennessee, and her parents in VA.
Thank you. All help appreciated. Jean
