Would you happen to have any information on George A. Taylor, b. c. 1800 in VA, enlisted in Civil War in Bethel, Morgan County, IL. Daughter, Eliza Taylor married Liberty Courtney. George and Eliza were living in Cooperstown, Brown County, IL in 1850 Census. Eliza married Liberty Courtney in June 1850. Liberty and his two sisters were living in Cooperstown, Brown County, IL in 1850 Census. By 1860 census, Liberty, Eliza and children were living in Jacksonville, Morgan County, IL. Liberty enlisted in Civil War from Jacksonville. There are Taylor's listed in the 1860 census for Morgan County but I can not identify which George it may be.
By 1870 Liberty was in Quincy, Adams County IL married to Elizabeth Keyte. In the 1880 Census Liberty and Elizabeth were living in McKee, Adams County, IL.
One daughter of Liberty and Eliza Taylor Courtney was Matilda, b. Oct 1852. Matilda had a son, Arthur Jared Valentine who was my grandfather, b. Jan 1882. Can not find evidence of a marriage to a Valentine (Jacob). Matilda also gave birth to an illegitimate child in the Adams County Poor house, Nellie Courtney, b. 30 Mar 1878 d. 31 Mar 1878, father unknown.
Can not locate Matilda Courtney or Matilda Valentine in any 1880 census. In 1891, Matilda married William Purvis in Camp Point, Adams County, IL. On the marriage certificate she used Combs for maiden name and Mrs. Matilda Courtney for married name. There is also a bible that was a gift to her as Mrs. Matilda Courtney.
In 1899 Matilda Purvis, maiden name Courtney, father Liberty Courtney, mother Eliza Taylor, married William Lantis in Camp Point, Adams County, IL. They were married until William Lantis' death in 1928. In the 1900 Census for Camp Point Village, Adams County, IL, Matilda and Arthur are living with William Lantis and his three sons, Charles, George and Ray. Arthur's father is recorded as being born in IL on the census.
Any connections?
