East Alton does currently exist. It is not a part of Alton. There are City
directories for Alton (earliest I know of being 1858) as well as some for
East Alton-Wood River. Not sure how early the East Alton directories were
published. Also don't recall when the name changes happened, but East Alton
has been known in the past as Emerald and Wann. Wann was I believe just a
railroad designation for the area, not an incorporated town name.
