Hello all,
By now I am sure many of you are familiar with the Tombstone Photos site at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ourcousins/
This past year my husband Laverne Stauffer, Donna Baumann, and myself have been working
hard at the site providing as many completed cemeteries as is possible before the snow fly's.
This county has about 23 townships with several cemeteries in most. The project is a
long and tedious labor of love. We are taking a little longer because we are working hard at
putting a name with those older, hard to read stones. When placed on the computer many
of these stones are easier to make out because we can blow them up some and this is helping.
Many people have written to me, sending me their individual photos of their family stones to be
placed on the site. We greatly appreciate these folks and their thoughtfulness in wanting to help.
However we are actually finding it easier and quicker just to take photos of each stone rather than
trying to sort through what has already been taken. Especially in the larger cemeteries.
What we truly need and would welcome is for more folks who live in the area and have a digital camera
to volunteer to take on a complete cemetery that they would photograph. It is a very rewarding experience.
So many stones are fading fast and we are preserving many of them before it happens. The more involvement,
the faster we can complete the project. We also give name recognition on the web site to those that
complete a cemetery.
If you have an interest in this, e-mail me at
Let me know the cemetery you are interested in and I will give you simple instructions on how to proceed.
Thank you and happy hunting!
Sincerely,
Kathryn Arnold-Stauffer
