Lois Sistler Summers, daughter of Samuel and Mary Lauderdale
Sistler, was born Dec. 26, 1898, in the Rock community and departed this
life, Dec. 22, 1966 in Massac Memorial Hospital, Metropolis, Ill., at
the age of 67 years, 11 months and 22 days.
Lois accepted Christ as her Saviour at an early age, and united
with the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member.
She was first united in marriage to Guy Baker. To this union,
two sons, Lowell and Loren, were born to bless their home. Sadness
entered when Lowell lost his life in a plane crash in 1947. Later she
was married to Harvey Carrigan. Two sons, Harvey, Jr., and John, were
born to this union, Harvey Jr., dying in infancy.
Lois spent most of her earlier life working at Downey, Ill., in
a hospital. In 1948 the illness of her father was her interest and she
came home to help care for her.
In 1949 she was married to Clarence Summers. Since that time
they have lived near Rock in Pope County.
Her greatest interests were in the church, cemetery, and
community, where she was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand
to those who needed her. Her last contribution to the cemetery was the
arch over the main gate entering the cemetery.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Clarence, two
sons, Loren Baker of Denver, Colo., and John Carrigan of Highland,
Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Eskew, Peoria, Ill., her step-mother,
Mrs. Ella Sistler, Golconda; one brother Howard Sistler, Phoenix, Ariz.,
10 grandchildren; four nieces; one nephew; and a host of other relatives
and friends.
Beyond life's dim horizon
Is a happy peaceful land
Where travelers are welcome
By a loving, outstretched hand.
And every weary traveler
Finds a wonderful new life
That's free from every heartache
And every care and strife.
For here she meets the Master
And her heart is filled with peace
Beyond life's dim horizon
Where her joy will never cease.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 26, at Mt. Zion, with
burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. John L. Cox officiated. Aly
Funeral Home was in charge.
