Hello again, lists: With the new revelations that Daniel HAZEL Jr. is the
proven son of Daniel HAZEL Sr., I am trying to now trace Daniel HAZEL Sr.'s
parents. We know there is no year of death on Daniel's tombstone. The
tombstone of Daniel Hazel Sr. says "Daniel Hazel son of Richard & Marget Hazel
was born December the 17 - 1746 NEI" He is buried at Ragsdale Cemetery, just
north of Dixon Springs, Pope County, Illinois. It was nice of his family to
put Daniel's parents' names on his tombstone! Now, looking back into Virginia
records, I see there are probate records for a Margaret and Richard Hazel in
1760, Hampshire County, Virginia (now in West Virginia). I have called the
courthouse, but they say all of those records have been microfilmed and are too
brittle to touch. Before I pursue the microfilmed copies, I am wondering if
any of you HAZEL researchers have already obtained these copies? It should
tell us the names of all of their children, hopefully. Daniel would only have
been 14 years old in 1760 when his father and/or mother died.

I also would like to know if any of you have already obtained the Rev.War
records for Daniel Hazel. He was in the 8th Virginia German Regiment. After
the war, about 1782, he was involved with William Crogan the frontier
developer of Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Would be happy to exchange any kind of
documentation on this family. Thanks in advance.
