In my home library is a book "Ghost Towns of Southern Illinois" by Glenn
J. Sneed,
1977, Second Edition, Royalton, IL. I was not able to find anything
regarding Clear
Creek in Hardin or Pope Co.. However, did find Bay mentioned in Pope
County, as
follows: (mostly excerpted)

Index pg 148 - "Bay City", "Bayfield / see Bay City";

" Bay was located on the banks of the Ohio River at the Pope-Massac
County line........
At that time all of township 16 was in Massac County, Bay was in that
part of section 34, township 15,
range 7 that lies alongside of Dog Island. Bay Post Office opened there
June 4, 1846. The name of
the post office was changed to Brackenridge October 27, 1857 and moved
across the county line
into Massac County. The name was changed back to Bay and moved across
the county line into
Pope County, February 6, 1864. The name was changed to Bayfield April
27, 1864. Then the
post office was moved to section 36, township 14, range 6, and the name
changed to Bay City,
November 2, 1865. It was discontinued March 31, 1918.

Bay City was surveyed FOR William M. MURPHY, November 12, 1859. There
were 101 lots
on the bank of the Ohio River in the southeast quarter of section 36,
township 14, range 6 and
recorded in Book of Deeds 1 page 690.

The village grew until it had two stores, a blacksmith shop, a boat
landing, a warehouse and
about twenty-five houses.

In Mr. Sneed's book, the above is the only "Bay" listed in the Southern
Illinois
Counties bordering the Ohio River. However, that does NOT mean that
another Bay did
not exist between Pope and Hardin. LOL, just wanted to add more
ingredients to stir in
the pot! :-) Also, thought the William MURPHY listed above might be
a family connection.
I will try to keep searching for Clear Creek.

Happy trails......Carol
