My grandfather was an engineer with the Illinois Central so I have a keen
interest in your questions. I checked my copy of "The History of the
Illinois Central Railroad", but couldn't find any direct references to
Golconda. On the web, I found this resource that indicates an extension of
the Illinois Central was built from Grantsburg to Golconda in 1899. See page
41 of the pdf file.

The Illinois Central tracks are also shown on the 1921 topographic map of
the Golconda Quadrangle which can be found here:

So, it appears Golconda did get rail service sometime between 1899 and 1921.
