Fred Sterrenberg
community leader, businessman
CRESCENT CITY - Visitation for Fred D. "Fritz" Sterrenberg, 82, of Crescent
City, will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church,
Crescent City. The Rev. Harold Grafe will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Crescent City.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Prairieview Lutheran
Home or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Sterrenberg died Monday (Aug. 28, 2000) at Prairieview Lutheran Home,
Danforth.
He attended the University of Illinois where he studied agriculture and
horticulture, and then was engaged in farming until he retired in 1981. In
addition to farming he owned his own real estate and insurance agency.
He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a charter member
of its men's group.
He also served on the Crescent City school board, was on the original board
of directors of Prairieview Lutheran Home and was a precinct committeeman for
25 years.
He was born Sept. 27, 1917, in Crescent City, the son of John and Mary Ahlden
Sterrenberg. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Nellie Clark, whom he married June 15,
1941, in Mankato, Minn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diann and Chuck
Peabody, Carmie and Ted Spenn, all of Watseka; four grandsons, David Peabody
of Decatur, Andy and Kara Peabody of Noblesville, Ind., Jacob Spenn of
Champaign, Jonathan Spenn of Upland, Ind.; and one sister-in-law, Letha
Sterrenberg Freund of Crescent City.
Two brothers are deceased.
His interests included the National Wildlife Association, coin collecting,
working with stained glass and tree planting.(Pd.)

Bernard Kohan,

Visitation for Bernard "Bud" Kohan, 70, of Bourbonnais, will be from 4-8 p.m.
Thursday at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, where
services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
Mr. Kohan died Tuesday (Aug. 29, 2000) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Mr. Kohan had been a supervisor for Ford Motor Company for 36 years.
He was born Oct. 26, 1929, in Kankakee, the son of Bernard J. and Ida Garder
Kohan.
His first wife, the former Dorothy Normandin, died Sept. 18, 1990.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marjorie Coy, whom he married Aug. 15,
1992, in Bradley; four daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Randy Lowery,
Sherrie and Joe Rivard, Marla and Tim Rivard, all of Naples, Fla., Vickie and
Gene Wilder of Bourbonnais; one stepson, Tom Coy of Watseka; three
step-daughters, Nancy and Lew Ferguson of Brighton, Janet and Harold Cooper
of Kankakee, Donna and Steve Hagenow of Bradley; one sister and
brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Walter Johnson of Herscher; one brother and two
sisters-in-law, Jerry and Esther Kohan of Tennessee, Lucy Kohan of Louisiana;
four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, eight step- grandchildren, and
nine step-great- grandchildren.
One brother, Ronald "Ron" Kohan and one step-daughter, Susan Alrandi, are
deceased.
He was a member of the Bradley Evangelical United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed bowling, music and gardening.

Laura Ruebensam
Laura Ruebensam, 96, of Kankakee, formerly of Papineau, died today (Aug. 30,
2000) at Riverside Medical Center.
Visitation will be from noon Thursday until the 1 p.m. services at the
Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. The Rev. Larry Schreffler
will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
She was born June 25, 1904, in Martinton, the daughter of Joseph F. and Mary
Laroche Schroeder.
Her husband, William Ruebensam Sr., whom she married in Papineau, is deceased.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Udell and Sara Ruebensam of Lake
Placid, Fla., Bill and Hilda Ruebensam of Bradley; one sister, Nancy Hartman
of LaGrange; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-
great-grandson.
One grandson, Kenneth Ruebensam, is deceased.
Mrs. Ruebensam had been a farmer and had worked at Aldens Department Store.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.
She enjoyed bowling, crocheting and baking.

Greg Zuber
Visitation for Greg Zuber, 45, of Bourbonnais, will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday
at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Bradley, where he was a member.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Inurnment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bourbonnais.
Memorials may be made to Loyola University Medical Center Burn Unit.
Mr. Zuber died Monday (Aug. 28, 2000) at Loyola University Medical Center.
He was born April 23, 1955, in Lawrenceville, the son of James N. and Viola
A. Rennier Zuber. His mother is deceased.
Surviving are his father of Olney; one daughter, Megan Zuber of Kankakee; his
fiancee, Andre' Guimond of Kankakee and her son, Grant; three brothers and
sisters-in-law, James J. and Diane Zuber of Granger, Ind., Lloyd and Sally
Zuber of the Netherlands, Larry and Jane Zuber of College Station, Texas;
three nieces and one nephew.
Mr. Zuber had been a school psychologist for Bourbonnais School District for
20 years and coordinator at the Kankakee County Special Education Cooperative
for two years.
He had received bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Illinois
University and also did post graduate work from Governors State University.
He enjoyed golfing and traveling.

Visitation for JoAnn F. St. Louis, 62, of Kankakee, will be from 4-6 p.m.
today at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima
Catholic Church, where she was a member, by the Rev. Charles Wheeler.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
Mrs. St. Louis died Tuesday (Aug. 29, 2000) at her home.
She was born July 22, 1938, the daughter of Adelore and Evelyn Saffer
Raymond. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Anthony St. Louis, whom she married Nov. 5, 1960,
at St. Patrick's Catholic Church; three sons, Roger St. Louis of Lake Bluff,
Thomas St. Louis of Kankakee, Robert St. Louis of Bourbonnais; one daughter,
Pamela VanHorn of Paxton; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and Harlen
Minor, Gladys Poole, all of Bourbonnais; one brother, Lester Raymond of
Bradley; step-sister, Jackie and Chuck Surface of Louisiana; six
grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Her step-mother, Stella Raymond; one brother, Adelore Raymond; and one
brother-in-law, Frank St. Louis, are deceased.
Mrs. St. Louis enjoyed garage sales, auctions, walking and had an extensive
knowledge of antiques.

Maxine Hanson
CHEBANSE - Visitation for Maxine L. Hanson, 80, of Chebanse, will be from 4-8
p.m. Friday, with a 4:30 p.m. wake service, at the Knapp Funeral Home,
Clifton.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic
Church, Clifton, by the Revs. Ron Hart and Lee Bacchi.
Burial will be in Clifton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made for Masses and St. Mary's Home Care Systems.
Mrs. Hanson died Tuesday (Aug. 28, 2000) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital,
Kankakee.
She was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Milks Grove Township, Iroquois County, the
daughter of Lawrence and Lovina Curwick Tatro.
Her husband, Edward H. Hanson Sr., whom she married Feb. 6, 1937, in Clifton,
died Feb. 27, 1986.
Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Vivian Hanson of
Clifton, LaVerne and Betty Hanson of Chebanse, Larry and Judy Hanson, Edward
Jr. and Linda Hanson, all of Clifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and
Jim Schultz of Herscher; two sisters, Loretta Hanson of Bourbonnais, Gladys
Hanson of Clifton; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
One grandson and one sister are deceased.
Mrs. Hanson had been a farmer.
She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Herscher.
She enjoyed foreign travel and bowling.

Michael Dahl
Visitation for Michael Adam Dahl, 28, of Denver, Colo., formerly of
Bourbonnais, will be from 5 p.m. today until the 8 p.m. services at the
Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Michael Adam Dahl Art
Education Scholarship.
Mr. Dahl died Saturday (Aug. 26, 2000) in Denver from injuries received in an
accident.
He was born Oct. 18, 1971, in Harrisburg, Pa., the son of Robert and Kathy
Conway Dahl.
Surviving are his father of Bourbonnais; his mother of Salida, Colo.; his
fiancee, Jami Ramien of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Angela Dahl and Todd
Sippel of Chicago; his twin brother, Andrew Dahl of Bourbonnais; and paternal
grandmother, Marguerite Dahl of Lowell, Ind.
His maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather are deceased.
Mr. Dahl was an artist.
He was a 1990 graduate of Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School and a
graduate of Southern Illinois University with a BS in art.
He enjoyed riding a mountain bike, tennis and hiking.(Pd.)

Clarence Ronna
WWII vet
MILFORD - Visitation for Clarence L. Ronna, 80, of rural Milford, will be
from 4-8 p.m. today at the Knapp Funeral Home, Cissna Park, and from 10 a.m.
Thursday until the 11 a.m. services at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ash Grove,
where he was a member.
Burial, with military graveside rites by the Cissna Park American Legion Post
527, will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Ash Grove.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Ash Grove, or to Christ
Lutheran School, Buckley.
Mr. Ronna died Monday (Aug. 28, 2000) at Provena Covenant Medical Center,
Urbana.
He was born Sept. 27, 1919, in rural Buckley, the son of Fred and Meta
Hilgendorf Ronna.
Surviving are his wife, the former Viola Kesler, whom he married June 9,
1945, in Ash Grove; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Vicki Ronna of
Pekin, Dale and Mary Ronna of Milford; three daughters and sons-in-law,
Beverly and Carol Koester of Cissna Park, Carol and Todd Guy of Rankin, Karen
and Dave Miller of Perrysville, Ind.; three brothers, Delmar Ronna, Lawrence
Ronna, Orville "Bud" Ronna, all of Paxton; two sisters, Irma Ennen of Loda,
Lois Grohler of Kankakee; 12 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, Lester Hilgendorf, Robert and Arnold Ronna and an infant, are
deceased.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the Pacific
Theatre.
Mr. Ronna was retired from Standard Register (Uarco) in Watseka.
He was an elder and member of the Men's Club of the church and a member of
the Cissna Park American Legion.
He served on the church cemetery board.
He enjoyed Cubs baseball, farming, hunting, fishing and played dartball with
the church team.

Edward Guentner
PIPER CITY - Edward Frank Guentner, 71, of Piper City, died Sunday (Aug. 27,
2000) at his home.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with a 4:45 p.m. recitation of the
rosary at Hager Memorial Home, Chatsworth.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul
Catholic Church, Chatsworth, where he was a member, by the Rev. Richard
Brunskill.
Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chatsworth.
Memorials may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
He was born Jan. 15, 1929, in Chicago, the son of Frank and Mildred Barnhart
Guentner.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Ann Morse, whom he married May 15,
1964, in Chicago; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pattie and Kevin McGrath
of Midlothian, Kathleen and Mark Molloy of Darien, Mary Kay and Bob Dunham of
Whitman, Mass.; two sons, Edward Joseph Guentner of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.,
Eric Michael Guentner of Chatsworth; one sister, Shirley Hurdle of Santa
Maria, Calif.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and many nieces
and nephews.
Mr. Guentner was retired from FJA Christiansen Roofing Co., Carol Stream. He
worked in construction for 33 years, the last 10 years as roofing foreman,
retiring in January 1989.

Buddy Watkins
ATLANTA - Buddy Watkins, 58, of Atlanta, and the brother of a Herscher
resident, died Tuesday (Aug. 29, 2000) at his home from cancer.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at McLean Christian Church. Tony
Billingsley will officiate.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurse's Association of Springfield or
to the Atlanta Rescue Squad.
He was born Nov. 25, 1941, in Lewisburg, Ky., the son of Willard and Elsie
Felty Watkins. His parents are deceased.
He was formerly married to Pamela Billington Fuller.
Surviving are three daughters and one son-in-law, Amy and Cletus Ridgeway of
Heyworth, Angela Watkins and Amber Watkins, both of Atlanta; two sisters,
Beverly Hoaglin of Lawndale, Ruth Johnson of Louisville, Ky.; three brothers,
Jack Watkins of McLean, Don Watkins of Buckley, Wash., Jerry Watkins of
Herscher; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Watkins was employed by the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.
He served in the U.S. Army and later in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era.
