Land purchases didn't use township names in legal descriptions since not all
townships were lined up exactly with the 6 mile square "congressional
township" boundaries. The legal description actually makes them easier to
locate. This land purchase was the SW quarter of the NE quarter of Section
21, and Township 40N Range 12E of the 3rd Principal Meridian is Leyden
Township in Cook County. The SW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Section 21 would have
been 40 acres, & it looks like it was about half in what's now Franklin Park &
half in what's now Schiller Park. Which begs the question........ Who is
your family there? My ancestors had cousins all over that area. :-) (By
the way - they had lots of connections in Iowa, too.)
