I am serching for information on Sue Fern O'Dell and husband Robert
Thompson and descendents.

SUE FERN O'DELL was born Abt. 1895 in Ill. Her parents were Joseph
Hiram O'Dell and Emily Cain O'Dell. She married JAMES R. THOMPSON.
In the 1900 census 17-year-old "Susie F. O'DELL" was enumerated as a
servant in the household of William F. MANNING.

A newspaper article about First Lieut. Robert J. Thompson, saved by his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph O'Dell, indicates that James and Sue
Thompson live in Keithsburg, ILL. The date on the article is Nov, 10,
1943

Has passed away. Was married and had two children. Wife was killed in
a plane crash in CA. The plane was said to have been bombed by a
terrorist.

Citation is Awarded Keithsburg Marine
Mr. and Mrs. James R. Thompson of Keithsburg have been notified that
their son, Marine First Lieut. Robert J. Thompson, has been commended by
Admiral Willam F. Halsey, for transporting by plane more than 13 tons of
vital military cargo in the face of Japanese fires.
Lt. Thompson was pilot of a transport plane attached to the South
Pacific Air Transport command, operating in the Coilomon Islands area.
According to Admiral Halsey he showed not only complete disregard for
his personal safety, but a high degree of courage. He now holds the
rank of captain, and is still flying the South Pacific area.
Capt. Thompson has been serving in the South Pacific area for the past
year. He was first pilot on a C-47 and was awarded the D.F.C. on Nov
10, 1943 for valor in action.
He is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Odell of Aledo.
