Hi J...
Here's what I found. Wells Street and Halsted Street are only about 3/4 mile
apart and so within a reasonable distance for a school I'd guess.

I did not find any street named Fernwood.

Here's what I did to get this information. I went to Google maps (not
necessarily without minor errors but it "moves over" soooo well that it is a
delight. Anyway I found Halsted and Wells up north, near Route 64 that goes
through Sycamore about 50 miles out of Chicago. Halsted goes along one side
of what is now the Cubs ball park. Wells is .7 of a mile east of Halsted,
near LaSalle Street.

The best I could find for Fernwood was a park. It is quite a way south...a
bit SW of the point where Rte 57 and Rte 94 meet. It is about 1/2 way
between Halsted which shows as a large street...and where Wells would be if
you followed it south from where I first saw it. Wells would be about where
Wentworth is on this part of the map. State street is just east of
Wentworth.

If this is where you were looking for your school, it may be that Wells
street gotten eaten up by things like the Dan Ryan huge road...and so it
doesn't exist anymore. Not far north of this point the Dan Ryan and Wells
seem to be so close together that no space is seen between them.

I found these places by putting in the words you gave me...and then sliding
the map around a bit too, in order to read other street names.

Maybe you will see something I didn't, or didn't know enough to recognize,
if you look there too.

PS...This isn't far from West Pullman...that isn't, by any chance, a place
you are interested in, is it? A number of people I know (well, know about)
went there to work in the 1890s.
