My Schuyler County names: RICHMOND - WALKER - TALLEY - GRISTY

Rev. John P. RICHMOND, MD (1811-1895)
his first wife, America WALKER (widow of Alexander TALLEY)
their children, Felicia, Oregon, Francis, John (Jr.)
her children, Harriet and Martha Talley
his second wife, Kitty GRISTY
their children, America, Corona, Cora

Dr. Richmond, his first wife, and the two Talley girls arrived Schuyler
County April 1836. Shortly afterwards he was ordained as a Methodist
pastor. In 1839 the Richmond family moved to the Oregon Country (not then
part of the United States) as Methodist missionaries. They returned to IL
in 1843 and he was assigned to various pulpits including Rushville. He
represented Schuyler County in the IL Senate 1848-52 and 1858-1862, and
in the IL House 1854-1856 or 1858. Dr. Richmond spent one year as a
Methodist pastor in Madison County, MS in 1853.

America Richmond died near Rushville 1858, buried Rushville. Dr. Richmond
married Kitty Gristy in Brown County in 1859. The family moved to Brown
County about 1865. Dr. Richmond was Educational Commissioner (aka
Superintendent of Schools) in Brown County 1865-72. The family then moved
to Dakota Territory about 1873.

In 1859 his daughter Felicia Richmond married Jonathan Neill of
Rushville. About 1870 John Richmond, Jr. married Alice Graves. Alice died
1871 and in same year he married Anna Seelay. Both marriages may have
been in Brown County, IL. The other Richmond children married outside IL.

It is not known what became of the Talley girls. Both were still in the
Richmond household in Rushville in 1850. One still there in 1860.
