Sara,
Thanks, Martin DeWitt arrived in Brown Co, In 1830 he was b, in MD abt
1777.
married Sarah/Sally Stivers 1800 in Clark Co, Ky , moved his family to
Ross/Fayette Co, Ohio in the later 1820's , he was employed as a summer
School Teacher,in Brown Co, in 1832, and from there it is said he joined
the
Texas Army and fought the Mexican Border wars, but this is doubtfull
since
they did not start until 1849. probably Indian wars, his children are
listed
as:
Pleasant DeWitt. b, 1802, Clark co, Ky. d 1882 Buckhorn Twp Br, co, Ill.
m
Nancy Emerich/k ( this is my line)
America DeWitt, b, 1806 Ky. m John Hagerty 1831 Schuyler Co, Ill
Julia M DeWitt, b, 1808 Ky. m William Thomas 1830 Fayette Co, Ohio
Gabriel Peter DeWitt, b,1811 Ky. m Mary Bell.
Elizabeth DeWitt, b, 1813, Ky.d 1882 Pike Co, Ill. Thomas Reddick
Susan Dewitt b, 1814, Ky. m Thomas Houston.
Emma Jane DeWitt, b,,1817, Ky. m Danial fisher .
Sarah Ann DeWitt, b, 1822 Ky. d 1850 Br, Co, Ill. m Jonas W, Houston.
the history books say he brought with him another son, William Martin,
but we
believe this to be a possible grandson. they would have been to old to
have a
child that young, by the dates on the gravestone.
anything you can find on any of these families would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks again, Marjorie DeWitt/Bailey
