I am very interested in the surname name Gelineau. My great grandmother's
maiden name was Octavie Jelanaux and she was born in French Canada according
to census records.. OCTAVIE JELENAUX (LATER GELENO OR1 GELINO) was born
April 30, 1850 in East Canada, and died May 31, 1904 in 6532 Ellis, Chicago,
IL. She married AUREL SANCHE April 8, 1867 in St. Anne Baptist Church, St.
Anne, Kankakee County, IL. He was born 1844 in Montreal, East Canada, and
died February 19, 1885 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

Is Papinoville that Rev. Chiniquy refers to the same as Papineau (Iroquois
I have received a copy of the obituary of HELENE (GELINEAU) BASTIEN that
contains information that differs with what I have. I know that the family
informant (in this case her daughter) quite often does not know the facts
but I offer the information to see if any of you can prove or disporve any
". . . She was born in Bourbonnais, Ill., in 1842 and was the
daughter of ADELINE LA PAGE and
PIERRE GELINEAU, who first came to this state in 1821. . . "
Chiniquy's Ledger and other sources record data about PIERRE GELINO and
ADELINE DELIESE who I am quite certain are Helene's parents. They appear to
have been married in Boucherville, Chambly on 9 Sept 1841 but her name is
given as ADELAIDE DELIESE-DEGLIERRES. According to Helene's death
certificate she was born in Trois Rivieres.
Pierre's parents are listed as ANTOINE GELINEAU and CATHERINE MARCIL. Her
parents were JEAN BAPTISTE DELIESE-DEGLIERRES and AMABLE DALPE-PARISEAU.
Any help with any of these families would be greatly appreciated.
