Scott,
Thanks so much for your help. That Laura A. Fisher is indeed my great
grandmother. I kind of doubt that the Harriett Thompson listed is her
mother. I had looked at the cyberdrive databases, but had not checked the
listings after 1916, assuming my Harriett had died long before that, but
assuming is not the best thing to do in genealogy!
The Harriet Degan Thompson I'm looking for was born 11 Nov 1827. She then
disappears from the censuses, leaving her children with other relatives. I
will certainly send for Harriett's death certificate to verify my
assumption, or if I'm lucky, she will turn out to be my Harriett! I'll
discover she and her husband Andrew Thompson left their children and ran off
to discover gold in the Yukon prior to 1860, and they left a fantastic pile
of money that has never been claimed...etc etc...
Thanks again.

Linda,
There is a Laura A. Fisher, died 14 Feb 1942, in the Illinois Statewide
Death Index, 1916-1950 which may be accessed on-line at
http://www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/idphdeathsrch.html . There were 24
Fishers listed in Wabash County in this database.
There is a Harriett Thompson, died 13 Jan 1919 - Wabash County, in this
database as well.
