In response to the July 26th posting re Daniel Chapman who was listed on the 1840 White Co. Il Fed Census.

I'm not sure there is any connection, but I have a Daniel Chapman b.ca 1824 in Il. He married Emily N. Gash and they are both buried in the old Gash Cemetery in Wayne county, Il. According to information compiled by Doris Bland on the cemetery some years ago, his tombstone stated he had been with Co E 15 Illinois Cav. Daniel and Emily became the parents of three children that I have found..Susan, John and Mary.
