There are three known Ninian Edward Whitesides, all named for the same ancestral person. The brother-in-law of Charles Egbert DeLong and his wife, Elida Field Vineyard DeLong, was named Ninian Edward Whiteside, and was born in Wisconsin, moved with his family to California, married Caroline Ewing Vineyard and died in 1876 in San Francisco, and is buried in Marysville, Ca. He was a California State Senator, and Speaker of the General Assembly, and a political cohort of CEDeLong. Caroline Whiteside then moved in with her youngest sister, Elida DeLong, after the funeral of Ninian. Elida's own husband also died prematurely of typhoid that same year. Elida was also caring for her aging mother, Mary A. Vineyard, and her five children in 1880 in S. F. Many DeLongs and Whitesides are buried in the Marysville, Ca. City Cemetery. Many bios and photos exists of the families in several libraries and museums in California.
