In the 1860 census in Erie Twp., Whiteside Co., IL is:

Slead, John 42 M NY Farmer
Pheba A. 37 F NY
Rosanna 13 F NY
George 12 M NY
Elizabeth 11 F NY
Jennett 9 F NY
John 4 M NY
Helen 2 F NY

It appears that Mr. Phillips initials got changed and it was W. C. not G.
W....but sometimes people changed they way they used their first and middle
names then too. On the next page in the census was:

Phillips, Thomas 49 M MD Farmer
Catherine 50 F MD
W. C. 22 M MD Farmer
James T. 21 M MD
Thomas J. 17 M MD
William A. 14 M IL
Isaiah J. 12 M IL Domestic

The Sleads were recently moved from NY, but Phillips have been in Illinois a
while, so I checked the 1850 census for Whiteside Co., but did NOT find
them. In 1870, in Erie Twp were:

Slead, John 52 M NY
Phoeby A. 44 F NY
John L. 13 M NY
Hellen 11 F NY
Albert 8 M IL
Allen 8 M IL (Twins)
Ida M. 6 F IL
Sherman 3 M IL

I did not check every Phillips in Whiteside County, but neither Thomas
Phillips and family, nor Washinton and Jeanette appear nearby, so they have
probably moved to Kansas as you indicate.

I am looking for information about G.W.Phillips family of whiteside co.
G.W. Phillips married Jeanette Slead. I do know that these two moved to
Lyon co. Kansas in the 1870's. I am interested in finding information about
G.W. Phillips parents/siblings etc.
