MORRISON. ILLINOIS, MONDAY, MARCH 24, 1913.
MR. AND MRS. JOHN J. KNOX
Mr. And Mrs. John J. Knox Unable to Celebrate Occasion
Mr. And Mrs. John J. Knox passed the 50th anniversary of their married life last Saturday in Morrison. As both were in poor health and under the care of a nurse the family felt it was impossible to celebrate this event. P.J. Humphrey, a cousin of Mrs. Knox and Wilmot Fisk, a friend of the family, dropped in on them Saturday morning to extend congratulations and remained for dinner. Mrs. Thomas Robinson treated the host and hostess and the guests to ice cream and Mrs. Raymond Reynolds brought them some delicious fruit. The Humphreys and the Knox families sent in some beautiful flowers and at the same time gave Mr. And Mrs. Knox a large and varied postcard shower.
Mr. Knox was born January 23, 1833, in Erie county, New York, and came to the “Ox Bow Bend,” north of Prophetstown with his parents, Mr. And Mrs. James Knox, when but two years of age. Two years later the family moved to Morrison, or to the site where Morrison was later built, and their home for a while was on the spot where the Stone & McLaughlin implement house now stands. Mr. Knox is the last but one of ten brothers and two sisters. He is thought to have one brother living at the soldiers home in Quincy.
His wife was formerly Lucy Humphrey and the couple were married in this place on March 22, 1863. Mr. Knox was eighty years of age last January. Mrs. Knox was born April 21, 1834 and will be seventy-nine years of age next month. Two children were born to them both of whom died in infancy.
Mr. Knox was born of Quaker parentage but later in life became affiliated with the Methodist church. In politics he was always a staunch republican and fearless in the defense of his convictions.
The Sentinel extends them hearty congratulations in the passing of their fiftieth year of wedding life, and hopes for them a speedy recovery that they may enjoy continued years of happiness in each others company.
