I just acquired a new reference
Reprint of
Will County on the Pacific Slopes, 35 to 40 years ago
author George Woodruff
originally published in 1885
The following is from editor's note of reprint
(SSGHS did reprint in 1989)
"Names are indexed...information on these pages was provided by letters and
reminiscences of those who where there and sent reports home. The reports
were then published in the Joliet newspapers...
Many communities are listed in the book: Crete,Homer,Joliet,Yankee
Settlement,Palinfield,Winchester(now
Wilmington),Naperville,Momence,DuPage,Lockport,Minooka,etc. If you lost an
ancestor in your research, perhaps they went west and stayed there. The book
mentions those who went and returned:those who stayed in California, Oregon
and other places:those who died...."
