I'm new to the list.
My grandfather, Adam Grismer, was a member of the IORM in New York State. I
have a poster of his that is absolutely beautiful. At one point, it was on
the net on a site of a gentleman from Camden, NJ who asked to put it on
line. I do not know if it is still on line. If anyone would like a copy, I
would be happy to send them a scanned copy of a photograph I have of the
certificate.
When doing my research, trying to find the records for the unit Adam
belonged to, I had contact with a gentleman in New York State who was at
that time involved with the IORM. He said he had no records and that they
were probably destroyed when that specific group folded. He did send me a
copy of a book, "History of the Improved Order of Red Men and Degree of
Pocahontas 1765-1988" written by Robert E. Davis. A lot of interesting
reading.
In the book are many, many names listed. If anyone would like me to see if
someone they are researching is listed, please send me an email and I will
send you any information I find.
Marge
