This family has been an enduring puzzle! Nancy Reed apparently had five children, over the space of 23 years, but never any sign of a husband.

I have looked into a number of records that might shed some light on these children's father(s), but the only thing I ever found was in the Hope Moravian records for the marriage of Oliver's sister Cora, on 24 Dec. 1902. Cora's parents are listed as John Goldsborough and Nancy Reed.

There is a John Goldsborough, "Huckster," age 38, IN-VA-KY, listed in 1880 in Flat Rock Twp., Bartholomew Co. (p. 106B). Cora was born in 1886. I don't know anything more about Goldsborough.

Oliver and the other siblings were born much earlier, so it's not likely Goldsborough was the father of any but Cora.

Moravian records did not provide anything else on these children; apparently Nancy was not a member, or perhaps not until late in her life.

Charles Reed, ca 1863-after 1870
Oliver S. Reed, 26 June 1864-30 June 1945
Lenora C. Reed, May 1870-after 1949, Kansas
Martin Reed, 28 Oct. 1872-11 June 1949
Cora Etta Reed, 6 Sept. 1886-aft 8 Nov. 1954

Nancy C. Reed, 8 July 1845-23 Oct. 1897, is buried on Lot 75 at Hope Moravian Cemetery, with Oliver and his wife. An extra stone, propped against Nancy's regular marker, says, "Our Mother, In God's own morn, her orb will rise, once more a star of Paradise."

Hope obits are not available before 1906, and Nancy did not have an obit in the Columbus paper.
