Caldwell lineage: William Caldwell was born in Virginia around 1771 and
was married to a Mary Clybourn. It's thought that William was the son of
Hugh Caldwell and grandson of James Caldwell, who immigrated from
Ireland. As best I've been able to determine, they had a son named Seth
born around 1803. Seth married a Nancy Rice and they had several
children, one a son named Andrew J. Caldwell born around 1832. Andrew
left home and moved to Boone County and lived near his uncle Thomas
Caldwell (son of William) and Thomas's son Nathaniel. I am descended
from Andrew.
Andrew and Polly James had several children, including Mary E., Seth,
John D., William Thomas, Sarah E. and Frank. Frank was my paternal
great grandfather.
Interestingly enough, William also had a second family in Kentucky. He
was pioneer traversing the Cumberland Gap and married a woman thought to
be part Indian -- around Harlan County Kentucky. Now Mary was still
alive in Virginia at the time. But William and Aggie (in Kentucky) had
nine children. There's a wide assortment of their descendants in
Southeast Kentucky and the lineage has been chronicled by Archie
Caldwell who is currently in the hospital in Tennesee -- recovering from
heart surgery and other ailments.
