Christian Record, June 1848, p. 381.

Brother Vance W. Taylor, of Gosport, Ind., is no more! On Tuesday, April
25th, 1848, in company with some others, he went to the Stone-quarry, and
while engaged in making a blast, the charge prematurely exploded, and he
was killed instantly; having his head shockingly mangled.

Brother Taylor was a member of the Church of Christ at Gosport, and has
been for many years. He joined the church, and was immersed, in Mercer
County, Ky., near Harrodsburg. He was a steadfast friend, a good neighbor,
a peaceable citizen, an affectionate husband, and tender and very devoted
Christian. But has thus been snatched away from the embraces of an
affectionate and amiable companion, and three small children, whose loss
cannot be repaired in this world; yet they have the universal sympathies of
the brotherhood and the community in which they reside. And they have also
the blessed hope of the christian to console them; they fully expect to
meet bro. Taylor beyond the cold stream of death. May the Lord take care
of the widow and children!
